This past week, among several well-deserved Padma Shri awardees was Harekala Hajabba. In this video interview from The Print, Hajabba tells the story of how he went from selling oranges in a bus depot to setting up a school for children in his village. The story of one man’s dream coming to fruition thanks to a vision and help that came in the form of a local MLA, several NGOs, ordinary people and large corporations (whom Hajabba makes sure to acknowledge by quite literally writing their names in stone). It does, as they say, take a village.
